Attending A Taster Session
Following your visit/s to Heritage the next step towards joining Heritage in the junior years of our school is to attend a taster session. These sessions give children the opportunity to see what school is like whilst we assess their academic levels, behaviour and social skills in an age-appropriate way.
- Children joining Reception will attend a play-based assessment in small groups which last about an hour.
- Children of Year 1 age will attend for half a day and the class teacher will assess them in the context of the day’s normal classwork.
- Children in Year 2 and above will join us for normal lessons for most of the day, during this time they will also complete standardised assessments in Maths and English, these take around 2 hours.
Confidential Reference Form
For children already of school age, any offer of a place is conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory reference from their existing school.
All children who are offered a place must be able to access mainstream classroom teaching effectively, work with a cooperative and respectful attitude and can achieve average to above average scores in standardised English and Maths assessments.
Accepting A Place
We will contact you by telephone about whether a place can be offered, the Headmaster himself usually makes this important call. You will then receive an offer letter and be asked to return a signed Acceptance Form together with a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of £xxx. Your child’s place is secured as soon as we have received these. We will then send out other information about starting school, for example consent forms and details about uniform.
